DON'T EAT WHEAT!

We're moving into a new house this week. It's been raining here all week and the forecast calls for rain for the next few days. Bad for moving, good for the very dry state of Kentucky.

I went in to the local water company to set up my service on the new house. The walls of the small rural water company office are filled with dozens of old pictures of the local community from the late 1800's and early 1900's. One thing that struck me was that there were no fat people in the pictures. There were class pictures from local schools, pictures of church pick-nicks, pictures from local businesses, and family reunions. NO FAT PEOPLE. What has changed from then to now?
Our food has been genetically modified, and we eat processed sugars.

Dr. William Davis's new book is out. Just ordered my copy.
I've been listening to interviews with Dr. Davis for a few weeks now.
You can read the first bit of his book on Amazon.

What I've come to learn in my study is holding up, and that is YOU SHOULDN'T EAT WHEAT!
I'm including a few links to interviews with Dr. Davis.
I hope you will listen to them and get the book.

Dana Carter has a a review of the book on her latest podcast. Give it a listen at:

Dr. Robert Su has an interview with Dr. Davis on his podcast, don't miss it.

And don't forget Rob Wolf's interview with Dr. Davis on his web site:

Corn has also been turned into a frankenfood.
I want you to check out a book called "The Unhealthy Truth" by Robyn O'Brien
Take a look at the site and make sure you click on the link to her video.

I found a short video titled "9 Toxic Effects of Sugar" on YouTube at:

For all you cola drinkers out there. How much sugar is in a can of cola?

Listen to Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt's lecture at AHS 2011

The Food Revolution - AHS 2011

"Do you want to improve your weight and health by eating real food? With no calorie counting, no diet products, no hunger? This lecture from Ancestral Health Symposium 2011 shows you how to do it the natural way.

The epidemics of obesity and diabetes are continuing to spread across the western world. Now we know why. Modern science has revealed our mistake.

The unnecessary fear of natural food has inadvertently caused us to eat more of the new food that can make us hungrier, make us eat more, make us fat.

Ever more people are realizing the mistake and seeing the solution. The food revolution is here. Please help spread the word once you know."

Remember "Sugar is Toxic, and Carbohydrates Can Kill".

That includes WHEAT.

OLD POST FROM SEP. 5, 2011 (COST)

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2011

"I can't afford to eat healthy." I hear this all the time. It's true, food costs are going up.
For most of our married life, my wife did all the shopping. Now that I have to, I see the increases every time I shop.
While shopping at a big grocery chain, I like to observe what people are buying. Next time you go shopping take a look at what folks have in their carts. It's mostly JUNK.
Billions of dollars are spent on junk food and fast food every year in this country. Because of the lies we've been fed by our government, even when people think they are buying healthy food they buy JUNK. They pay extra for whole wheat bread, low fat food; fruit that's shipped hundreds or thousands of miles, and so on.
See an article online called "What Has Government Done to Our Health?
Read an article in The New York Times by Gary Taubes called "What if It's All Been a Big Fat Lie?"
And again, the USDA food pyramid has killed thousands and cost us trillions in health care costs.  The Weston A Price Foundation offers a critique of the 2010 USDA Dietary Guidelines. They spoke at the National Press Club on Feb. 14, 2011.  It's a 13 part video on YouTube. WATCH IT ALL.

There is plenty of good research to prove that eating carbs makes you want to eat more. You get hungry faster and are never satisfied. Again, read the book called "Wheat Belly", you'll find the link in an earlier blog. You can read the first few chapters free on Amazon.com

Here is a quote from www.rawfoodexplained.com
"Not only do these junk foods and fast foods cost money to eat, but the after-effects of consuming such foods often results in additional money being spent. Indigestion, headaches, colds, hemorrhoids, colitis, and many other ailments may be traced to junk food consumption. The average person may spend another $5 per week just on "medicine cabinet" remedies or over-the-counter drugs for these illnesses that result from such foods.
A year of junk food eating also typically results in about six new cavities and a tooth needing capping or pulling, according to figures from Army dentists. This translates into an average $10 per week for dental care.
We still do not know the costs of medical expenses that accumulate because junk food eaters go to their doctors, nor can we accurately figure in how many lost days of work result from such a diet. Even so, the total costs of eating junk food for a year are impressive. Consider these 'figures:

Annual Costs of a Junk Food Diet
Junk foods $832
Fast foods $936
Drugs and Medication $260
Dental Bills $520
Medical Bills (estimate) $250
Days lost from work (estimate) $350
Total yearly loss of income from junk foods $3,148

By eliminating junk foods from the diet, a person would realize enough yearly savings to purchase a new car every three years. He or she would have more energy, a higher level of health and well- being, and literally extra years to enjoy such benefits. No one really knows how much junk foods shorten the lifespan, but it would probably not be unrealistic to use the same figures that are often quoted for cigarette smokers. Every cigarette smoked means a 15-minute decrease in your life. Junk foods, with all their poisons and additives, may be more harmful than smoking and it would not be unreasonable to assume for every bag of cookies or quart of ice cream, you're knocking off hours, days, and weeks of your life."

From www.dietdoctor.com, the following:
"The problem of sugar and starch"
"All digestible carbohydrates are broken down to simple sugars in the intestines. The sugar is absorbed into the blood, raising the blood glucose. This increases the production of the hormone insulin. And insulin is our fat storing hormone.
Insulin is produced in the pancreas. In large amounts insulin prevents fat burning and stores surplus nutrients in the fat cells. After some time (a few hours or less) this may result in a shortage of nutrients in the blood, creating feelings of hunger and cravings for something sweet. Usually at that point people eat some more. That starts the process again, a vicious cycle leading to weight gain.
A low intake of carbohydrates gives you a lower and more stable blood glucose, and lower amounts of insulin. This increases the release of fat from your fat stores and increases the fat burning. This usually gives fat loss, especially around the tummy in abdominally obese individuals."

OK we know that junk food is bad for us and costs us thousands of dollars a year. We know that eating carbs/sugars makes us want to eat more.
The solution? Simple, eat more meat and less carbs. Here are a few ways to eat better for less.
When you decide to stop buying the junk, you'll free up all that money for good food.
There are ways of buying the good food for less. Many areas have food cooperatives. You join with others in buying food in bulk. Check your area. Try a web site called www.LocalHarvest.org at, http://www.localharvest.org/food-coops/
Another great web site is www.eatwild.com. A site where you can buy locally produced food. I've found that I can buy grass fed organic beef, chickens, and lamb at a greatly reduced price. Along with locally grown produce.

You can have fresh greens all year long with inexpensive sprouts.
The cost of sprouting seeds is substantially less than the cost of buying the mature plant at the grocery. A tablespoon of lettuce seeds costs about 60 cents, and provide nearly as much bulk as a small head of lettuce, which can cost around $2.00 at the store.
Another way to obtain good food is through barter. I sell Kentucky Whiskey Barrels, rain barrels, barrel planters, and barrel parts. One day I sent an email to all the stores selling sprouting seeds that I could find on line. I offered to trade my product for theirs. One company agreed and I traded 2 half whiskey barrel planters for a big box of assorted sprouting seeds. I'm going to try the same with other food producers.

Lets talk of the benefits of eating low cost readily available sprouts.
Sprouting Seeds: The Ultimate Food
Sprouts are one of the most alkalising, nutritious and easily accessible foods know to man. Being rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins and enzymes, they can be grown easily in four to six days and require no effort and very little cost.

A sprout possesses all of the energy, vitamins and nutrients and power that enables it to be transformed from a small seed into a strong plant. At this stage its nutritional value is at its highest for instance, sprouted seeds can contain 400% more protein than lettuce and over 3900% more beta-carotine.
Also, due to their size and taste you are able to eat hundreds of sprouted seeds at a time. In so many sprouts, you are eating the equivalent of hundreds of fully grown plants all at once – when else would you be able to get the goodness of one hundred mature plants in one meal?!
Studies have also shown that broccoli and other types of sprout contain exceptionally high levels of a natural cancer fighting compound called sulforaphane (20 – 50 times more than in mature broccoli) which helps support antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin E.

Sprouted Seeds: Raw, Crisp and Delicious
Sprouts are an alkalizing, living food which continue to grow and gain vitamins after being harvested, which when compared to food bought at the supermarket which begins to lose their nutrient content as soon as they are picked (and are not then consumed for weeks on end) become very attractive – especially if you are trying to add more raw food to your diet.
They are great to be eaten on their own, used in salads and stir-fry's or juiced into your green drink.

Sprouts: Packed With Nutrients
The nutritious value of sprouts is remarkable with sprouts containing a greater concentration of vitamins, minerals, proteins, enzymes, phytochemicals, anti-oxidants, nitrosmines, trace minerals, bioflavinoids and chemo-protectants (such as sulphoraphane and isoflavone) which work against toxins, resist cell mutation and invigorate the body’s immune system than at any other point in the plant’s life – even when the plant is fully matured.
The abundant enzymes in sprouts also makes them easily digestible as their delicate cell walls easily release elemental nutrients.
Many different types of sprout are available including alfalfa, broccoli, little radish, mung bean and a range of mixes including fitness mix, gourmet mix and aromatic mix.

Bottom line, we spend too much on junk food. Cut out the junk. Spend a little time learning what is good and buy only good food. You'll save money.

Count the Costs. Be healthy. Eat healthy.

OLD POST FROM SEP. 1, 2011 (LIFESTYLE)

My 160 pound weight loss

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2011

When people see how much weight I've lost, the typical question besides how did you do it, is how much more are you going to lose. Since I'm not on a diet I don't know how much more I will lose. At some point I will level off. I do feel that I can lose another 10 or 15 pounds. I'm losing slower but still dropping weight.
A while back I was driving in the car and suddenly felt that I had left my wallet at home. You know men can't go anywhere without their wallets. I reached to my left rear pocket where it would have been and there is was. That was the first time I realized how much weight I had lost. I hadn't lost my wallet but the fat in my rear end that always let me know my wallet was there. A great feeling.

Remember, diets don't work. They do more harm than good. It has to be a change in the way we think, the way we live our lives. It has to be a lifestyle change. Because of the circumstances that brought me to this awaking I know I will never go back to the old way. If I'm ever tempted, the images of the tragedy that woke me up are always there.

We all need help along the way. If you are familiar with Alcoholics Anonymous you know of the buddy system. Having someone you can call on when you are at a low point. We all need help and support. There will be times when you just can't handle it by yourselves. This is another instance where the Internet is very helpful. There are lots of folks out there just like us. They are going through the same things and need help from time to time. I have found several low carb and paleo forums that I've joined to talk to people who are of like mind when it comes to diet and health.
I recommend that you join one or more of these groups.
There are more, but these are good starts with lots of helpful folks.

WHEAT BELLY
I just finished listening to Dr. William Davis on the Robb Wolf's Paleo Solution podcast
You can listen on Robb's web site or iTunes.
Dr. Davis has a new book just out called
"Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health". I can't wait to read the book.
Check out Robb's forum too. http://robbwolf.com/forum/

Welcome to your new lifestyle. Help is just a click away.

NEW POST... THEY ARE STILL LYING TO US

You would think that after all these years of the truth being available, the lies would stop. BUT  they are still pushing the lies. The people that perpetrated the lies are still in control. The medical profession and big pharma still have too much to lose to tell the truth.
They are playing with lives. Like I’ve said before around 900 people a day die from following the USDA Food Pyramid and My Plate.  They are still pushing this crap.

Remember:
* Carbohydrates can klil
* Sugar is toxic. Avoid all sweeteners, even so called natural ones.
* Grains are unhealthy and should be avoided, even corn and soy
* Seed oils like canola and soy are bad and should be avoided.

AND:
* Saturated fat is good for you. Use fats like coconut oil, olive oil, lard, and tallow
* You have to eat fat to lose fat

Watch how they are lying and trying to deceive and scare people:

Many doctors know the truth, and some even admit they were wrong;

It's up to YOU to learn the truth. NEVER trust a doctor to tell you the truth.

POST FROM AUG. 27, 2011 (GOOD FOOD)

160 Pound Weight Loss

SATURDAY, AUGUST 27, 2011

Let's talk about food. I've had people tell me that they can't afford to eat good food. It might seem cheaper to eat junk, but consider the end of it. On the day my wife died from a massive stroke about 820 people in this country died that same day of the same thing. That many die EVERY DAY, 365 days a year from obesity related causes. In comparison, 58,000 men died in the 10 year Vietnam war, and that was with people TRYING to kill them. Over 300,000 die a year in this country from obesity. The ones that die quickly are the lucky ones, many are disabled or live with all kinds of suffering because of their diet.

Walking through a big chain grocery store the other day I told my boys that if all the junk food was removed, there would only be two isles. There is a sense of freedom, as I mentioned earlier, when you can walk past all the junk, know that it is bad for you, and not be tempted to buy it.

Go to WellnessMama.com and read this article called "How Grains Are Killing You Slowly".

Sugar, the Legal Heroin? Refined sugar is very similar to heroin, one of the most addictive and deadly narcotics out there. Yes, you read that right. Sugar and heroin have more in common than not. But there's one key area where sugar and heroine are different... sugar is legal.
Go to a web site called Organic Nutrition and read the article " Is Sugar Bad For You".
I could go on and on about the bad stuff (and probebly will). Let's talk about what is GOOD for you.
As my knowledge has increased through many month of study, my diet has evolved to what many call Paleo. This is called Paleo because many believe man has been on earth for tens of thousands of years and we should eat what Paleolithic man ate.
Lets not get into a discussion of how long man has been on earth . The point is the diet is right. We should eat a high fat, high protein, low carb diet. Dr. Atkins had it right. It's all about low carbs and high fat. Take a look at http://dietdoctor.com and "LCHF for beginners"

I eat lots of meat and fat, good fat from clean fish and animals along with oil from coconuts, and olives, lots of leafy green vegetables, and I avoid starchy vegetables like potatoes. The only fruit I eat is berries and cantaloupe, in season. Most fruits have too high sugar content and should be avoided.
I drink water and herbal tea. Peppermint is my favorite, I take it with me when I go out and keep a big bottle of it in the fridge at home. The only liquids you should have in your fridge is water or herbal tea. Don't drink fruit juices, they are just sugar water. If you want orange juice, eat an orange, you'll get the beneficial fiber along with the juice. If you drink milk, make it whole raw milk. It is available in most locations but you will have to search for it.
You should eat grass fed beef, and free range chickens and eggs. To find local sources of grass fed beef, and free range chickens go to a site called www.eatwild.com
www.EatWild.com is your source for safe, healthy, natural and nutritious grass-fed beef, lamb, goats, bison, poultry, dairy...and other wild edibles.

Here is a shopping list from the www.dietdoctor.com site:
• Butter
• Heavy cream (40%)
• Sour cream (34%)
• Eggs
• Bacon
• Meat (minced, steak, stew pieces, steaks, fillets, etc.)
• Fish (preferably fat fish like salmon or mackerel)
• Cheese (preferably high fat)
• Turkish yoghurt (10% fat)
• Cabbage (cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, etc.)
• Other vegetables growing above ground
• Frozen vegetables (broccoli, wok vegetables, etc.)
• Avocado
• Olives
• Olive oil
• Nuts

And a list of things to avoid:
• Candy
• Potato chips
• Soft drinks and juices
• Margarine
• Sugar in all forms
• Wheat flour
• Pasta
• Rice
• Potatoes
• Everything that says “low fat” or “no fat”
• Ice cream
• Cookies
And let me add all corn products to the list of things to avoid. I'll tell you why.
From the latest issue of "Mary Janes Farm" magazine, (yes I do read it) an article titled "More Disturbing Info on Bt Corn"
"Monsanto has long reported that the genetically modified Bt corn (now present in virtually all non-organic corn) is safe for humans because the toxin in it that kills insects cannot survive the human digestive system. But a Canadian study published in Reproductive Toxicology reports that, in blood samples of 39 pregnant women who ate conventional diets, 93 percent of their fetuses had the toxin in their systems."

I'm down another 2 pounds this week- Down to 197- a 139 pound loss so far.

You can pay the farmer more now, or pay the doctor more later, the choice is yours.

Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny…

It's amazing that in this age of information, so many people are still in the dark about nutrition. But, we have all been deceived from childhood. We live in a world held captive.

We've been lied to from childhood. Remember how you felt when you learned there was no Santa Claus? Then there was The Easter Bunny, and The Tooth Fairy; this was just the tip of the iceberg. We got over those lies, we grew up. But the lies about nutrition, health, and diet still hang around our necks like a millstone.

It's encouraging to see that some are waking up. Thanks to the internet, we have all this great information available to us right in our homes. We're in the drivers seat when it comes to learning about nutrition, health and diet. We can know more than many of the Doctors out there.

I'd like you to check out a video about a book called "The Vegetarian Myth" by Lierre Keith.
BEFORE you read the book or watch the video, read Dr. Michael Eades review on the book.
If you don't know who Dr. Eades is, he wrote a book called "Protein Power" along with his wife Dr. Mary Dan Eades.

Dr. Eades says, "Before I get into a discussion of the absolutely phenomenal book, I've got a few disclosures to make. First, I'm not much of a believer in the notion of man-made global warming or climate change… Second, I am not particularly pro-feminist. And I certainly don't hang around with any self-proclaimed radical feminists…
Given the above, you wouldn’t think I would enjoy and recommend a book written by a self-proclaimed radical feminist who is obviously a believer in global warming and the impending end of the earth as we know it.  I wouldn’t think so, either. Not my cup of tea even when it is sort of preaching to the choir.
But I can tell you that Lierre Keith’s book is beyond fantastic.  It is easily the best book I’ve read since Mistakes Were Made, maybe even better.  Everyone should read this book, vegetarian and non-vegetarian alike.  If you’re a radical feminist, you should read this book; if you’re a male chauvinist, you should read this book; if you have children, especially female children, you should read this book; if you are a young woman (or man) you should read this book; if you love animals, you should read this book; if you hate vegetarians, you should read this book; if you are contemplating the vegetarian way of life, you should definitely read this book; if you have a vegetarian friend or family member, you should this book and so should your friend.  As MD said after she read it, “everyone who eats should read this book.”

Here you will find an interesting article called "Does the Bible Say We Should Eat Grains?"
Read it then go back and listen to the video on the book "Wheat Belly" posted earlier on this blog.

On the same subject I want you to check out a book called "The Unhealthy Truth" by Robyn O'Brien
Take a look at the site and make sure you click on the link to her video.

"A Texas native raised on Twinkies and PoBoys, Robyn O'Brien is an unlikely crusader for cleaning up the food supply.

“In the absence of the truth, all of us stand helpless to defend ourselves, our families and our health, which is the greatest gift we have.   Robyn O’Brien’s courageous pursuit of THE UNHEALTHY TRUTH is an example of how we can all do our parts to protect the health of our families." —Erin Brockovich

"Robyn O'Brien inspires us in THE UNHEALTHY TRUTH with the information that she has learned about our food supply and offers practical and affordable steps to take to protect the health of our families." -Dr. Oz

The foods we are eating now are NOT the foods our parents ate, or the foods we ate as children.

Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, Healthy Wheat, Healthy Corn, and Soy

POST FROM AUGUST 23, 2011 (BE WISE)

I lost a total of 160 pounds

TUESDAY, AUGUST 23, 2011

Every where I go, people who know me ask me how I have lost so much weight. They want to know what diet I'm on.  I tell them I'm not on a diet, that diets don't work and even harm your body. I tell them how easy it is to lose weight. NO diets, NO calorie counting, NO worrying about cutting the fat out, NO worrying about cholesterol, NO running on the treadmill for hours a week, and NO drugs to  take. I let them know they can eat all the fat they want, all the meat and eggs they want. WOW, they say, now they are REALLY interested.  Then, when I tell them what I've done to lose the weight their expression drops. NO they say, I can't give up my pasta, my bread, my potatoes, my cake, my ice-cream, MY SUGAR!  I tell them they WILL give it up sooner or later. My wife gave it up the instant her brain exploded. Excuse me for being so BLUNT, but I've lived it. That was the wake-up call for me. When you know to do good and do it not you are sinning. The body is the temple of GOD. Does God want all that JUNK, all that POISON in HIS TEMPLE? Remember Christ drove out the money changers with a whip. NOT SO SUBTLE HUH?

I know we all have to come to it on our own. No one can force anyone to quit a bad habit.  Interventions don't work with drug users, alcoholics, or sugarholics. They have to come to it on their own, they have to reach bottom, and WANT to change.  Some one said "Intelligent men learn from their own mistakes; Wise men learn from the mistakes of others." Be wise, learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others. Change now before it's too late.  There are things worse than death. My wife would not have wanted to live in a vegetative state, with someone having to take care of her, she would have wanted to go as quick as she did.  I know people who are suffering greatly because of their diets.

We've all been lied to. We have been deceived by our government and healthcare system. And all for MONEY!

I'm surprised  by how many doctors are now seeing the truth about diet. For the most part, they only come to the truth when THEIR health is threatened. Then they began to study, they find out they have been lied to. They have been taught to follow the company line. If some one has a problem, treat the symptom, give them a drug. There's no money in finding out the why of a problem, no money in teaching people to eat right. If you can't turn it into a pill it's not considered.  Listen to the "Livin La Vita Low Carb" podcast and you'll hear some of the doctors  I'm talking about.

Dr. James Carlson is one who has come to the truth because of health problems. Do your selves and your family a BIG favor and watch the 8 part video on YouTube called:  "Ultimate Wellness with Dr. James Carlson, click here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d86WeZxCRUw

The USDA food pyramid has killed thousands and cost us trillions in health care costs.  The Weston A Price Foundation offers a critique of the 2010 USDA Dietary Guidelines. They spoke at the National Press Club on Feb. 14, 2011.  It's a 13 part video on YouTube. WATCH IT ALL.

What do the following celebrations have in common? Christmas, Easter, Valentines Day, Halloween, Birthdays. Besides being pagan in origins, they are all about SUGAR.

There's a lot of money spent on candy during Halloween. According to Nielsen Research,  in 1999 Americans spent approximately $1.9 billion on Halloween candy. Easter ran a close second with $1.7 billion spent. That was over 10 years ago, bet it's a lot more today.

Would you give your children a poison snake to play with? You are when you give them candy.

Pediatrician Doris Rapp performed research on how sugar affects children. The following video clip is from her clinical archives. Watch the video "Sweet Suicide: or How Sugar Ruins Your Health"

Obesity causes many health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, and strokes. Obesity can kill you by the things it causes!

BE WISE, OR BE A STATISTIC

POST FROM AUGUST 21, 2011 (FREEDOM)

I lost a total of 160 pounds
THIS IS MY BLOG POST FROM SUNDAY, AUGUST 21, 2011

"Intelligent men learn from their own mistakes; Wise men learn from the mistakes of others".

When I walk through a grocery store now, I enjoy a feeling of FREEDOM.
I'm free from the addictions that grip the majority of people. FREEDOM from the brainwashing we've all received from childhood on what is GOOD for us.

I know that I am no better than anyone else. I too was were they are. I didn't know the truth about the food I was eating. It took a traumatic event in my life, the sudden death of my wife to wake me up. (see my first post to learn more). That's what it took to get me asking questions, and finding answers. The answers are there, you just have to want to ask the questions.

We are held captive by our food addictions. It's killing us. We are spending billions each year to treat these addictions. Thousands of lives are ruined and people dying because of diet.

Dr. Mercola has an interview with Gary Taubes on his site. Give it a listen:

REMEMBER IT'S SUGAR AND CARBS THAT ARE KILLING US.

On this site you will learn 124 ways sugar can ruin your health:
Contributed by Nancy Appleton, Ph.D., www.nancyappleton.com
Author of the book "Lick The Sugar Habit"
And:

Check out Dr James Carlson's Blog:

I love meat, especially hamburger and hotdogs. There is nothing like a cookout in the summer. The problem is you can't eat the buns. I've found a site that solves that problem. You won't have to deal with this bun-less ordeal any longer. On this site you will find gluten-free, low-carb buns called Oopsie Rolls. This is the miracle you've been waiting for. Whether it's a Wendy's burger or a Red Robin guacamole burger, you can sub out their high-carb buns for these babies. We make them ahead of time and take them with us when we go out to eat, to a picnic or cookout.

As we gather together to battle the evil forces of sugar and carbs, watch this short video clip and be encouraged. We can win.

FREEDOM!

POST FROM AUGUST 14, 2011 (ONEDERLAND)

I lost a total of 160 pounds

SUNDAY, AUGUST 14, 2011

If you've ever watched the TV show called The Biggest Looser you know what the word ONEDERLAND means. It's when your weight drops below the 200 pound mark.
Well as of this week I'm in ONEDERLAND. I've dropped below 200 pounds. I've not been below 200 pounds in many many years. I've lost 137 pounds so far.

My daughter returned home from college this month. She is a great cook. She knows what I eat and has for the most part adopted the lifestyle herself. I was worried that I would gain weight because of her good cooking, she has proven that eating well and healthy can taste good too.

An old Chinese proverb says: "The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed."

That's the difference between a diet and a lifestyle. You always want to quit a diet because you are hurting your body and it won't take it for long. You end up gaining back any weight you loose plus you add more. If you would like to know more about this check out the latest Underground Wellness podcast.
Listen to the interview with Jon Gabriel, author of The Gabriel Method. John stops by UW Radio to discuss the underlying causes of weight gain. Topics will include why diets don't work, your body's internal logic determining weight gain/loss, and tips for permanent, sustainable, weight loss. Learn more about Jon at www.GabrielMethod.com.

You'll find lots of great informations on the Underground Wellness site. You can listen to the podcasts on iTunes.

I will list a few more sites for you check out. Remember:
SUGAR IS TOXIC AND CARBOHYDRATES CAN KILL YOU

Check out Dr. Su's podcast "Carbohydrates Can Kill"

There is a new book coming out called "Wheat Belly" by Dr. William Davis. Lose the wheat, and lose the weight. Check out this interview with Dr. Davis at: http://www.themorningblend.com/videos/125226934.html The wheat we are eating now is killing us. It's not the same wheat we ate as children. Watch this short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THjWY0OSDD4
"A renowned cardiologist explains how eliminating wheat from our diets can prevent fat storage, shrink unsightly bulges, and reverse myriad health problems.
Every day, over 200 million Americans consume food products made of wheat. As a result, over 100 million of them experience some form of adverse health effect, ranging from minor rashes and high blood sugar to the unattractive stomach bulges that preventive cardiologist William Davis calls "wheat bellies." According to Davis, that excess fat has nothing to do with gluttony, sloth, or too much butter: It's due to the whole grain wraps we eat for lunch.
After witnessing over 2,000 patients regain their health after giving up wheat, Davis reached the disturbing conclusion that wheat is the single largest contributor to the nationwide obesity epidemic—and its elimination is key to dramatic weight loss and optimal health. In Wheat Belly, Davis exposes the harmful effects of what is actually a product of genetic tinkering and agribusiness being sold to the American public as "wheat"—and provides readers with a user-friendly, step-by-step plan to navigate a new, wheat-free lifestyle.
Informed by cutting-edge science and nutrition, along with case studies from men and women who have experienced life-changing transformations in their health after waving goodbye to wheat, Wheat Belly is an illuminating look at what is truly making Americans sick and an action plan to clear our plates of this seemingly benign ingredient."

ONEDERLAND! It feels great.

I would like to say congratulations to Randy on his 10 pound weight loss. Keep up the good work.

POST FROM JULY 7, 2011 (You Have to Start Somewhere)

THURSDAY, JULY 7, 2011

"Permanent results only come from permanent changes in diet and lifestyle.
You don’t get permanently well unless you permanently change the way you live.
70% of the diseases that affect us now are caused by our life choices: how we exercise, … and what we eat".
- from the film Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead

When I decided we needed to make a change in what we were eating I realized I didn't know much about nutrition. I had been avoiding breakfast and eating what I thought was a reasonable diet. Like most people I was taught to eat a low fat, high carb diet. That's a diet with plenty of "healthy" grains.
Like many fat people I had a diet book on the shelf. I pulled it out and read it. This book was not so much a diet book as a book on food and the body.
The book is "You on a Diet: The Owner's Manual for Waist Management" by Dr. OZ and Dr. Roizen.

Since reading that book I've learned much more about diet and nutrition. The book was a good start, we all have to start somewhere.
Through the book I did learn some of the foods to avoid.

I had a talk with my two sons and told them we needed to make a change. I pointed to myself and said this was their future if they continued to eat like we were. I reminded them that I was once as skinny and fit as they are. After loosing their Mom they were ready to listen and agreed to make the change with me.
I pulled the trash can over to the refrigerator and started throwing things out. Next I moved to he cabinets and continued to rid ourselves of the junk we had been eating. I told them we would prepare all the food we ate from fresh ingredients and there would be no more fast foods.

I got on the internet and started my search. You will find all kinds of fad diets and bad information online, but there is lots of good sound information available. After a year and a half of research I have come up with some good, books, web sites, blogs, and podcasts.

One of the best web sites and podcasts is "Livin La Vita Low Carb" with host Jimmy Moore. Jimmy sets the example of what can be accomplished by lifestyle change. I listen to every episode, you should too. The web site is: http://www.thelivinlowcarbshow.com/shownotes/ you can also listen to the podcast on iTunes.
Another favorite site of mine is "Latest in Paleo" find it here: http://www.latestinpaleo.com/ The podcast is available on iTunes.

It's a start.

POST FROM JUNE 26, 2011 (Nothing New)

SUNDAY, JUNE 26, 2011

What I'm going to share with you is nothing new.

Here is some of the information I found when I began searching for a healthier lifestyle. This information should be taught to all school children. It should be posted in all grocery stores, like the warning message on a pack of cigarettes.

SUGAR IS TOXIC and CARBOHYDRATES CAN KILL YOU!

I'm not trying to sell anything and I receive no money or consideration if you click on any of the links provided. I'm just trying to do my small part in educating you on the subject.

If you have found this site because you too are trying to educate yourself and make changes in your life, welcome.
I'm going to share some of what I've found. I'll post quotes and links to various sites related to the subject of health and diet.

To start with, if you haven't viewed the video "Sugar The Bitter Truth" by Dr. Robert Lustig you should do it now. Dr. Lustig is Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco. He is one of the leading experts on childhood obesity, and has been a pioneer in decoding sugar metabolism.

Watch it on YouTube, here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM

You can also watch it on Dr. Joseph Mercola's web site at:

Dr. Mercola's site is full of helpful information.
Clink on this link to find out more about Dr. Mercola:

Here's a quote from the site:

"Death by sugar" is not an overstatement...

Evidence is mounting that sugar is the primary factor causing not just obesity, but also chronic and lethal disease. There's really no doubt anymore that sugar is indeed toxic to your body, and it's only a matter of time before it will be commonly accepted as a causative factor of most cancer, in the same way as we accept that smoking and alcohol abuse are direct causes of lung cancer and cirrhosis of the liver...

Because as Dr. Lustig points out, sugar acts as a toxic substance that wreaks havoc on your health.

Changing Our Diets Could Save U.S. $1 Trillion per Year...

For the first time in history, "lifestyle" diseases -- diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers -- are killing more people than communicable diseases. And treating these entirely preventable illnesses costs more than one-seventh of the U.S. GDP.

So it stands to reason that simply preventing these diseases could save the US health care system around one trillion dollars a year!

How do we prevent them?

By putting an end to this insane over-consumption of sugar..."

If you want to know why we get fat and what to do about it you should read the book by Gary Taubes called "Why We Get Fat And What To Do About It"

Learn more about Gary Taubes here:

This is a good beginning. If you don't learn anything else, I hope you will learn the truth about sugar and carbs. It could save your life or the life of a loved one.
